George Bain a Celtic pattern hunting rug

A rare George Bain Celtic wool rug measuring 192 x 120 cm ( 6 x 2.9 FT ). The central Octogonal medallion enclosed by a field decorated with a wild boar hunt amongst other detailing design. Manufactured by Messrs. Quayle and tranter, Kidderminster circa 1948 the authenticity is in its detailed and beautiful patterns and the fact that it was made exactly similar to the ones illustrated in " George Bain, Celtic Art. The extra advantage of this piece is in good overall condition with only minor localised wear commensurate with age with both ends secured and in good order. It has been light washed and ready to furnish your home.

Footnote: Originally from Scrabster in Caithness George Bain studied at the Royal College of Art and began his career as a book illustrator. He studied Celtic art and in 1951 published Celtic Art, The Methods of Construction. A related rug was exhibited in 'George Bain' Master of Celtic Art', at the Scottish Gallery in January and February 2012. He designed several carpets of Celtic influence for Quayle & Tranter of Kidderminster during the late 1940s. See V&A Museum collection T.579-1995 for a similar example.
