A rare handmade wool antique Spanish wool room size rug circa 1920 measuring 300 x 200 cm ( 9.8 x 6.5 ft ). Stunning multi borders design having palette pastel colours predominantly reds with shades of green, Ivory amongst others. It is surprising to know Spanish carpet making goes back to almost 12th century with areas of Cuenca and Alcaraz being ones of very active regions. Rugs made in Spain had very much influence from Arab natives in particular Morocco rugs and that is why some of the patterns and colours are very much the reminiscence of such influence. However weaves are very much European with similarity between them and Arts and crafts rugs made in Eastern Europe as well as UK and Ireland. These rugs are normally sought after and rare and not often found in the open market in particular being in good condition. This rug has all the attribute explained and is a very beautiful decorative piece being in good condition considering its age. It has been professionally cleaned and washed with some areas of localised wear commensurate with the age and usage.
