Impressive antique handmade wool Afghan Ersari large rug circa 1880 measuring 420 x 245 cm ( 13.7 x 8 ft ). Prime example of rows of bold hexagonal Guls in a stunning rusty brown red background having geometric borders of similar colours. Looking at the back of the rug which is brighter, seems the rug has been naturally slightly faded and become more pastel colours as a result of age. However the beauty of the rug and its quality of the wool has remained undiminished. It is fascinating that both end original Kilims still remaining and apart of one patch of repair showing in the video and couple of photos with some very localised wear the rug has maintained its good low pile overall. It has been professionally cleaned and washed really a good antique room size Ersari rug.
