An old handmade wool Turkish Konya wool rug circa 1950 measuring 185 x 136 cm ( 6 x 4 ft ). A diamond shaped central medallion decorated with the floral motifs in a white and red background having geometric borders in soft yellow. The typical old Turkish Konya rugs are characterized by the restraint towards color combinations and their use of earth tones (most notably: soft yellow, terracotta and browns). The wefts of the Konya rugs are always red, distinguishing them from other Persian carpets. The Nomadic pieces within this region usually have a foundation of dark wool or goat hair as appears to be seen in this rug. The very old antique Konya rugs are normally very sought after and coming from various villages within the region. This rug is in good condition considering its age and has some minor localised wear but not too significant to take way the beauty of the rug. Wool is soft and shimmy.
