A genuine late 19th century hand-knotted wool Tekke Turkmen room size rug measuring 265 x 170 cm ( 8.6 x 5.6 ft ). Rows of Gul design in abrashed pink and antique red field having similar geometric borders. The rug displays attractive abrash throughout the field, indicating traditional dyeing methods. The wool has developed a soft handle and patina over time. The rug has all the attributes belonging to finer pieces from the region with very soft wool and fine weave. The contrast of colours from light pink to antique red with the light camel patches remind us of the old natural dyed used which are very costly and time consuming in today processes. A highly decorative and collectible tribal piece suitable for both contemporary and traditional interiors. It was also very finely woven and has more of the soft wool. Despite being well over 100 years of age has remained in good usable condition with the light localised wear. It has been professionally cleaned and washed.
