Rare handmade wool Zabul rug from Iran circa 1960 measuring 182 x 101 cm ( 5.8 x 3.3 ft ). Panels of ornaments and geometric motifs each decorated in light multi coloured background having similar bands of borders. Zabul is an area situated in the SouthEast of I'ran near the border with Pakistan. From the region Balouch rugs have always been prominent and very occasionally one can find Zabul rugs in an open market. Perhaps due to the deprivation of the region less appetite is available to continue the rug making as before but once you find an old piece there is an excitement!? Zabul rugs of early to mid 20th century have lovely shimmy wool with dyed vegetable colours hence colours slighted muted. Although robust and hardwearing but weave somehow very dense and finely made. This rug has remained in very good condition and can give amazing decor to any room.
