Very impressive Persian handmade silk, wool and cotton Sarouk possibly Ghochan rug measuring 190 x 145 cm ( 6 x 4 ft ). Detailed tree of life design having versus or poems with the signature of the weaver in the top. This rug seemed made by order as normally given as a dory present for the special occasion. This normally seen in older or antique rugs of late 19th and early 20th centuries which were sought after. The age of the rug I thought would be around 30 to 40 years and if is older it must have been kept well by way of hanging on the wall or kept away from any heavy footfall. It has cotton foundation with wool and silk pile where silk can be observed in floral and animal motifs. There is a very soft and shemmy wool surface and the rug is very light weight. Incredibly decorative with muted colours as seen in many photos. Excellent condition and very clean which is remarkable considering its age. It is really a cross between city and tribal rug and extremely decorative piece.
