An extremely attractive handmade wool antique Afghan Ersari rug circa 1900 measuring 290 x 205 cm ( 9.5 x 6.7 FT ). Typical rows of Hexagonal motifs each decorated in the field of deep red colours. Please note this is one of the fine of the Afghan Ersari rugs with having lovely shimmy wool and soft woven pile. Rugs made by Ersari tribes have been in decline for decades mainly due to the migration of these tribes to the cities and diversion from making high quality carpets to rather mass production ones. The distinctive feature of original Afghan Ersari rugs like the one on offer are their quality of weaves and mixture of abrash colours. Since majority of Ersari rugs were naturally dyed, the change of colour shades would happen as a result. You can see from some of the photos the shades of lighter and darker reds. The other remarkable feature about this Ersari rug is that both original end Kilims have remained in good condition. It has been professionally cleaned and washed with good consistent pile and very minor localised wear commensurate with age.
