Handmade wool Arts and Crafts rug in the manner of Voysey design with 22 colours measuring 230 x 165 cm ( 7.5 x 5.4 ft ). A beautiful classical Voysey design with floral and ornaments field having light Ivory and Beige colours amongst other pastel colours. The wool made in Belgium with the high quality and weave is very much similar to the European Voysey classic rugs originated from Irish Donegal. It is professionally cleaned and washed and with good shiny pile and in excellent overall condition.
The story of Voysey rug production was originated from County Donegal, Ireland in 1897 when he was approached by Alexander Morton & Co to produce designs for a line of hand-knotted carpets in their new shop. As time passed these rugs would prove to be extremely popular, both in Great Britain and abroad, and no less a figure than Gustav Stickley promoted and sold them in his stores, catalogs and magazine. When found today, original carpets by Voysey sell in the hundreds of thousands of pounds.
