Genuine antique handmade wool Caucasian Dagestan wool rug circa 1880 measuring 150 x 88 cm. A beautiful rows of motifs having various colours and designs in the midnight blue background field. The Dagestan oriental rugs were one of the notable Northeastern Caucasus antique rugs and were closely related to the other rugs in that area, like cuba, Shirvan and Kazak however they tend to be slightly finer of some of the Caucasian rugs and made into prayer rugs and rarely large sized have been found. The motifs are very much initiated from the local weavers with tent design and happy living are very much part of these designs. Borders are very beautiful and very much represent types mainly seen in the Caucasian rugs. The rug is in good overall condition with some repiling and local wear in places. Both ends secured and has been light washed.
