Antique Caucasian Shirvan or Kuba handmade wool rug 5.2 x 4.2 ft
Rare antique handmade wool Caucasian rug from the area of Kuba or Shirvan dated 1919 measuring 160 x 130 cm ( 5.2 x 4 ft ). Bold geometric medallion with cross like forms in centre having strong antique orange colour is in pale red, dark and other natural dyed colours. The border pattern has repeating geometric motifs in different colours which are the characteristics of Shirvan type rugs. The weave and colours also seen in Caucasian Kuba rugs as well as Armenian types. Extremely decorative and despite some wear along the edges and outer boarder at one end the main field is generally in good condition.It has been professionally cleaned and washed and both ends protected to avoid further wear. It is dated 1919 CE! The weave and colours and the origin possibly correct to assume rug was made almost 100 years ago!?
