A decorative and good quality Afghan old handmade wool rug circa 1940 measuring 190 x 135 cm ( 6.4 x 4.4 ft ). Three central hexagonal panels each decorated with pink motifs secluded with multi panels in rusty gold background. The thin weave and soft wool indicates the rug is one of the high quality gold rugs made around the mid 20th century. The contrasting colours in particular pink and gold with the rusty background are quite interesting in this rug and as a collector of Afghan and Turkmen rugs, I rarely come across such contrasting colours. It has been professionally cleaned and washed, both end fringes secure and apart of very minor localised wear commensurate with the age it is in good overall condition.
