Fantastic antique handmade wool Afghan Ersari rug circa 1880 measuring 320 x 220 cm ( 10.4 x 7.2 ft ). Prime example of fine Afghan rug made by Ersari group situated in the Southern Turkmenistan and central Afghanistan mid 19th to early 20th centuries. These tribes were actively making some of the finest of Turkmen and Afghan rugs during this period before migrating to larger cities. Since mid 20th century the Afghan rugs made in mass production with lesser quality and in coarser foundations. It is getting harder to find these types in good condition at open market. Although design of Gul motifs are more or less similar to the newer Afghan rugs but the quality of shimmy wool and soft foundation make them superior to other Afghan rugs. This rug has remained in good condition considering its age with consistent pile with only minor localised wear in couple of Guls due to the age and usage. It has been professionally cleaned and washed and has a beautiful colour combination rarely seen in newer Afghan rugs.
