Genuine handmade wool Afghan Ersari runner rug circa 1850-70 measuring 225 x 100 cm ( 7.4 x 3.2 ft ). Rows of Gul motifs each decorated with geometric objects in antique light and dark brown colours amongst others with the narrow bands of borders in similar colours. The weave indicates the rug to be one of the original Afghan rugs made by Ersari trabes located in the South of Afghanistan. Its foundation is very finely made and has a very decorative look. Generally in good condition with some areas of wear, rug has been restored with few stitches mainly at the upper end. Both end Kilims well preserved and both salvages redone and secured. Highly decorative runner with huge traditional history behind it.
